Free walking tour of the TFHH Arboretum in Georgetown

Credit Valley Conservation will be hosting a walking tour of Georgetown's Trees for Halton Hills Arboretum on June 4th.
Learn about the native trees of Halton Hills before adding them to your property.

Previous 2023 Events and Plantings

Oct 25th – We’re excited to announce that on Wednesday Oct 25th 60 volunteers from the Rogers Communications Muslim community and Trees for Halton Hills will be planting 200 trees at the Georgetown Armstrong landfill site. We’re thrilled to give back to the community in such a meaningful way. 🌳🌳🌳

 

October 14th – Join CVC and Trees for Halton Hills to help make the Hungry Hollow neighbourhood more sustainable and ready for a changing climate. This event is part of the Hungry Hollow Sustainable Neighbourhood Action Plan (SNAP).

October 14th – Trees for Halton Hills will be at the Georgetown Farmer’s Market selling our decorated ‘Halloween Pumpkins with cedar tree’ for $20.
Hope to see you there. Enjoy the decorated pumpkin inside for now and plant the tree outside for years of enjoyment.

September 30, 2023 – Rotary Club volunteers planted 200 trees in Georgetown at the former Armstrong landfill site.

September 21, 2023 – Atura Power volunteers planted 200 trees in Georgetown at the former Armstrong landfill site.

Spring 2023 – Through a grant, Trees for Halton Hills will be implementing their Program “A Place in the Shade.”
Many properties in our community lack the shade that is essential for healthy play and pedestrian environments. Trees for Halton Hills has built a relationship with the Halton District School Board where Trees for Halton Hills will provide funding for a professional landscape firm to install 25 caliper trees on 4 school properties to create “a place in the shade” for outdoor learning. Four schools have already been identified.

April 22, 2023 (Earth Day) – Through Georgetown Chevrolet Buick GMC’s vehicle sales initiative promoting Trees for Halton Hills during the fall of 2022, the dealership advertised a tree would be planted for every vehicle sold. Dealership staff, families and the customers who bought vehicles during this time are invited to participate in the April 22nd planting at the old Armstrong landfill location on Maple Ave. East in Georgetown, Ontario. Two hundred trees are to be planted.

April 22, 2023 (Earth Day) – Saturday, April 22, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Acton Arena and Community Centre, join the Town of Halton Hills and Your Green Homes for a free one-day event to learn about actions you can take to reduce carbon emissions! This event raises awareness of real climate solutions, provides and opportunities for residents to get involved, and showcases and local businesses. This event includes:

    • Free Electric vehicle (EV) test drives by Plug’n’ Drive

    • Electric vehicles on display by owners and businesses

    • Presentations and booths by businesses on home solar, ground source heat pumps and other home energy efficiency products

    • Presentations and booths on sustainable landscaping including managing water using rain gardens, gardening, identifying trees, and invasive pests and plants

    • Promoting the use of alternative active transportation options such as e-bikes, bicycles, and transit

    • Used Bike Swap

    • Family Storytime hosted by Halton Hills Public Library. Plant your own bean to take home, enjoy a special Storywalk®, and visit the Seed Library!

    • Green Tours of the Halton Hills Public Library’s Acton Branch

May 27, 2023 – Trees for Halton Hills with Credit Valley Conservation Authority and Butterflyway will be hosting a mutually run planting event at West Branch Drive in Georgetown. At this event tents and tables will be set up for information and learning. Butterflyway will be giving away pollinator plants to residents and participants who would like them. All residents are welcome to come and learn about helping the environment.

Trees for Halton Hills will be promoting the 65,000 tree challenge to encourage the community to plant trees on their properties. Volunteering opportunities will be available for the community through sign up pages at the event.
Fall 2023 – Through a grant, Trees for Halton Hills will be implementing their Program “A Place in the Shade.” Many properties in our community lack the shade that is essential for healthy play and pedestrian environments.

Trees for Halton Hills has built a relationship with the Town of Halton Hills where we will provide funding for installation of 20 caliper trees along the Guelph Street Corridor in Georgetown, Ontario to create “a place in the shade” for pedestrians. Trees for Halton Hills is hoping to continue with this project as funds become available. Sites along Guelph Street have already been identified.

We will build relationships with businesses with high profile locations to encourage the businesses to plant trees on their properties. Trees for Halton Hills will provide knowledge to create a sustainable design, help retain trees and shrubs to create “a place in the shade” for employees and pedestrians. We are hoping to continue with this project as funds become available.

June 15, 2023 – Friends of the Credit Awards ceremony – where Trees for Halton Hills will be recognized for their ongoing achievements in our volunteer work.
